Hands- On Discovery: Sensory Exploration and Fine Motor Development
Friday June 19, 2026 10:15am - 11:30am CDT
Sensory and fine motor activities can sometimes be messy in a classroom, but that's okay! Our young learners should have the opportunity to explore different textures, helping to develop their small hands for more complex tasks ahead. This session discusses the importance of sensory and fine motor activities, examples of materials and where to find them, and shows implementation in pre-K classrooms. Teachers will also get to make their own sensory box!

Phonological awareness is a critical early literacy skill that involves recognizing and manipulating the sounds in spoken language. Implementing hands-on centers in the classroom provides students with engaging, interactive opportunities to practice these skills in meaningful ways. During this training, educators will learn how to effectively design and facilitate phonological awareness centers that target key skills such as rhyming, syllable segmentation, alliteration, and phoneme blending and manipulation.
